Does a porta potty come with a sink?
Not a standard one. A standard portable restroom comes stocked with hand sanitizer, three rolls of toilet paper, and seat covers. There is no sink inside it. Worth saying plainly before you order.
If you are pricing a job and assumed a sink came in the unit, add the station as its own line.
Three ways to get handwashing on a site
They are not the same thing.
- A standard porta potty. Hand sanitizer inside, no running water. Fine on its own for a short event with no food service. On a California job site it does not cover the washing rule by itself.
- A standard porta potty with a wash station beside it. What most job sites and most events actually need, and what Cal/OSHA asks for on construction. The sink is a separate unit. We set it next to the restroom so the two work as one stop.
- A restroom trailer. The one that flushes and has real sinks inside the room, with running water, mirrors, and climate control. The option for weddings and upscale events. See restroom trailer rental.

How many handwash stations does a site need?
One washing station for every twenty employees, or any fraction of twenty. That is the rule, set in California Code of Regulations, Title 8, §1527(a)(1), the Construction Safety Orders section on washing facilities. Ten workers is still one station. Twenty-two workers is two.
The placement line is the one people miss. It is not enough to have a station somewhere on the site. It has to sit where someone leaving the porta john can reach it without walking the job. When we deliver both, we place them together for exactly that reason.
Two more things in the same section rarely get mentioned. If your crew applies paints or coatings, §1527(a)(2) requires washing facilities in near proximity to the work itself, stocked with whatever cleanser actually removes that substance. And there is an exception: a mobile crew with ready transportation to a nearby toilet and washing facility is not required to carry one. If that is your situation, you may not need us on that job. We would rather tell you.
One clarification, because older guidance gets this wrong: §1526 is the toilets section and sets the toilet count. Washing facilities live in §1527. Both apply on a jobsite, counted separately. Both rules, quoted word for word, are in our guide to job site toilet rules in California.
Every washing station must at all times
- Be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition
- Have an adequate supply of water for effective washing
- Have a readily available supply of soap or other suitable cleansing agent
- Have a readily available supply of single-use towels or a warm-air blower
- Be located and arranged so that any time a toilet is used, the user can readily wash
- Next to a portable, non-flush toilet: carry a sign that the water is for washing, and stand outside the toilet, not attached to it. A crew under five with one toilet may have it inside.

Where will guests wash their hands?
In event planning threads this is the single most-named restroom dealbreaker. Sanitizer covers a lot of ground. It does not cover a guest who just used a restroom and is walking back to a plated dinner.
If your event has food vendors, catering, or a food truck, check the handwashing requirement with your county health department when you pull the permit. It varies by county. Beyond food, stations serve guest areas, staff zones, and volunteer check-in.
For a small backyard event, one station next to the restrooms is enough. For a wedding or a festival, pick the tier honestly: standard units with a wash station beside them, or a restroom trailer where the sinks are inside. We rent both. More on the restroom side at events and weddings.

On the same schedule as your restrooms. Weekly is standard. For sites running twenty or more workers, or events spanning several days, we run twice-weekly or daily service so the water stays fresh and the soap does not run out mid-shift.
Every service visit includes a fresh water refill, soap and paper towel restock, wastewater removal, exterior and basin cleaning, and a time-stamped service record through ServiceCore.
That record is the part worth paying attention to. The loudest complaint about this industry, in review after review of the big providers, is being billed for a visit that did not happen. You get the record of the visit, and if you keep compliance paperwork for the job, it is already written down.
What drives the price of a portable sink rental?
Four things move the number.
- How many stations. Crew size under the one-per-twenty rule, or guest count and food service at an event.
- How long you keep them. A weekend event and a six-month build price very differently.
- Service frequency. Weekly is standard. Twice-weekly and daily cost more and are worth it on heavy sites.
- What else is on the order. Restrooms, fencing, and tanks delivered on the same run cost less to service than the same items split across vendors.

Can I bundle sinks with my porta potty rental?
Yes. Contractors say it plainly in their reviews of other vendors: the company that handles the toilets, the wash stations, and the temp fence is the one that keeps the account. One delivery, one schedule, one invoice, one number to call.
You can also rent stations on their own. Events with indoor restrooms and job sites that already have facilities often need nothing else.
